- Norma is Chief Executive of The North East Regional Portal, a fully owned not for profit subsidiary of One NorthEast, the Regional Development Agency. The organisation’s mission is to accelerate and intensify participation in e-Business amongst the region’s SMEs, by adding value to existing support structures. Passionate about the role of e-business in the North East of England, Norma is particularly committed to ensuring that information, support and advice on online activities is fully accessible to all business and community members across the region.
Norma is a board member of the North East eLeadership Council, the North East Rural Affairs Forum, NE Museums Library and Archive Council’s National Digitisation Project and the Digital Women’s Network. Norma is qualified as a Prince 2 Project Management Practitioner and is an Export Communications Consultant for the British Chambers of Commerce. She is an active business mentor with various organisations including Prince’s Trust, Digital Women’s Network and in a private capacity.
Born and brought up in a remote village on the border between Northumberland and Durham, Norma graduated from London University with a Joint Honours BA degree in French and German and spent the next 15 years in the tourism industry based in Europe, establishing a range of successful businesses, before returning with her family to the North East in 1996.
Norma is a fervent and active outdoor person, enjoys running and orienteering, and has a passion for music, reading, travel and organic farming.

nice to hear from you and apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Your profile sounds equally interesting and you have obviously been immersed in all things EI for a long while. Do tell me about your other company, which sounds very interesting - can you let me have a URL for it? I was away from the NE for almost 25 years and coming home has been a real joy. I am very new to EI and so still immersed in lots of reading and research. Looking forward to getting more involved.

I'm from Leeds and worked for 3 years in Jesmond while living in Durham. I always said if I hadn't met my husband at that time (he was living in the south) I would have settled in Newcastle. I loved it up there. Especially the people.
