If my amygdala was to increase in size, would I have an increased ability to develop emotional memories?
A report in the Times yesterday discussed evidence that 'children with the largest amygdalas displayed the longest sustained aggressive behaviour', quoting that the amygdala is 'a region linked to anger'.
I wonder if it possible to turn the research on its head, so to speak - does the need to process far more emotional trauma caused by erratic upbringing cause the amygdala to grow? Perhaps the parents of the 137 children involved in the study should hold their sigh of relief brought on by the exoneration of their parenthood by the biological explanation presented. It is maybe their treament of their children that has brought it about!
